About Me

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Western Michigan University.

My research interests lie in machine learning and predictive modeling, with a special focus on finite mixture modeling and model-based clustering. I have addressed problems in modeling and clustering data with complicated structures, like high-dimension categorical sequences, matrix data, and directional data. Applications of the developed methodology include text mining and natural language processing, pattern and signal recognition, social science and education analysis, etc.

Previously, I completed my Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the Department of Information Systems, Statistics, and Management Sciences, University of Alabama. I was fortunate to be advised by Dr. Volodymyr Melnykov.

I am actively looking for highly-motivated undergraduate/Ph.D. students who are interested in applying computational statistical techniques to solve real-life problems. Please feel free to send me an email if you have an interest.

You can download my CV.
